Aviva: application stages, tests and practice
Aviva lists four steps: apply online with a CV and short questions, online tests (a Situational Strengths test and a Numerical Reasoning test, plus a coding assessment for some technology and data pathways), a recorded video interview of a few strengths-based questions followed, in the same step, by a short AI literacy assessment, and an assessment day. Aviva says AI is not used to assess candidates or make recruitment decisions at any stage.
Stages in order
What do the confidence badges mean?
- Vendor-published Stated in the test publisher's own document or practice site.
- Academic From peer-reviewed research.
- Official employer Stated on the employer's own page.
- Near-official Near-official: an employer-run practice portal, or a vendor or employer-quoted press release naming the employer.
- Candidate-reported Reported by candidates. Treat as likely but unconfirmed.
- Third-party From prep sites, press or forums. Not confirmed by the employer or publisher.
Apply online
Official employerSend a copy of your CV and answer some short questions. Aviva says that during the process it wants to hear about what you enjoy doing and what you are good at, and that you need to feel a connection with its values.
Online tests
Official employerIf shortlisted you take an online Situational Strengths test (how you think, work with others and approach different scenarios) and a Numerical Reasoning test (using numerical information to make decisions). The prep hub's own practice card says numerical reasoning questions come up when you apply for some pathways, so it may not apply to every pathway. It also says the time you take on each numerical question counts towards your score, alongside accuracy. Software Development (Technology), Data Engineering and Data & Advanced Analytics applicants also take a coding assessment. The archived page for September 2026 starts said everyone took the Situational Strengths test and only some pathways (Accountancy, Actuarial, Claims, Pricing and Underwriting, Wealth) also took Numerical Reasoning. Test lengths and item counts are not published on the pages read. The prep hub is run by Cappfinity; Aviva does not say on the pages read who runs the live tests.
Practise: Situational judgement test practice, Numerical reasoning test practice
Recorded video interview
Official employerIf you pass the online tests you get a link to a recorded video interview. You answer a few strengths-based questions, with a practice question first, and have the chance to say why you are excited to start your career with Aviva. The number of questions, preparation time and answer length are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Video interview practice
AI literacy assessment (after the video interview, within the same step)
Near-officialFor September 2027 starts, the prep hub's step 3 is 'Video interview and AI literacy assessment': after the video interview you complete a short AI literacy assessment on your preferred ways of working and how you use judgement when interacting with AI in workplace scenarios. Aviva says that while you are assessed on AI literacy, AI is not used to assess you or make recruitment decisions at any stage. Length and format are not published. This step does not appear on the archived page for September 2026 starts.
Practise: Situational judgement test practice

Assessment day
Official employerIf you do well you are invited to an assessment day, where you meet some of the team, get a feel for working at Aviva and show what you are about. The prep hub's interview tips cover a 'skills based interview' and ask you to keep Aviva's values in mind, without saying at which stage that interview happens. Exercises and length are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Assessment centre practice, Daily interview question
Final stage line-up
Aviva says only that at the assessment day you meet some of the team, get a feel for working there and show what you are about. Exercises, interviews and length are not published on the pages read.
Retakes and validity
No retake or re-apply rule is stated on the pages read.
What we could not verify
- Who runs the live tests and video interview (HireVue is named only by prep sites; Cappfinity runs the practice hub)
- Number of video questions, preparation time and answer length (a candidate report of two minutes to prepare was not confirmed)
- Whether a verbal reasoning test is included (candidate-reported only)
- Assessment day exercises, interviews and length
- Length and format of the AI literacy assessment
- Whether placements, internships and apprenticeships follow the same steps
- Whether you may apply to more than one pathway (a job board listing said one pathway only; not read)
- Retake or re-apply rules

Aviva says only that at the assessment day you meet some of the team, get a feel for working there and show what you are about. Exercises, interviews and length are not published on the pages read.
Can I practise for Aviva here?
Yes. Each stage links to the matching free practice, with real timings, an untimed mode and a learn mode. The practice is independent, uses original questions and is not affiliated with Aviva or any test publisher.
Independent practice. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Aviva.
