Legal & General (L&G): application stages, tests and practice
L&G lists an online application, online assessments (strength-based behavioural questions and numerical questions) with a recorded video interview of motivational questions, a coaching call with the Future Talent recruitment team, and an assessment centre: a 45-minute interview with two assessors, a 15-minute presentation on a topic given in advance, and a scored group exercise. Its practice site, the L&G Preparation Zone, was developed with its talent partner Cappfinity. L&G says it does not use AI to make recruitment or hiring decisions in the Future Talent process.
Stages in order
What do the confidence badges mean?
- Vendor-published Stated in the test publisher's own document or practice site.
- Academic From peer-reviewed research.
- Official employer Stated on the employer's own page.
- Near-official Near-official: an employer-run practice portal, or a vendor or employer-quoted press release naming the employer.
- Candidate-reported Reported by candidates. Treat as likely but unconfirmed.
- Third-party From prep sites, press or forums. Not confirmed by the employer or publisher.
Online application
Official employerApply through the L&G careers website with basic personal details and your educational background. The process page says there is an opportunity to share your CV, but the Future Talent FAQ says L&G does not accept CVs and assesses you on each stage instead. You can have only one active Future Talent application per recruitment cycle. L&G recruits on a rolling basis with no deadlines; most graduate roles open in October and internships in November.
Online assessments and recorded video interview
Official employerAn online assessment of strength-based behavioural questions and numerical questions, and a video interview in which you answer motivational questions. A 2024 L&G graduate job advert described the cognitive part as verbal and numerical reasoning, sent straight after you apply. Assessments with video questions need a device with a working camera and microphone. L&G says you must submit your own responses and that using AI live in an assessment is prohibited. Time limits and question counts are not published on the pages read. L&G's own careers pages do not name the vendor; its Preparation Zone names Cappfinity as L&G's talent partner.
Publisher: Cappfinity (named by the employer or an employer-run portal)
Practise: Situational judgement test practice, Numerical reasoning test practice, Video interview practice, Cappfinity-style assessment practice
Coaching call
Official employerA call with the Future Talent recruitment team with tips on preparing for the assessment centre and what to expect on the day, and a chance to ask questions. It is described as preparation, not as an assessment.
Assessment centre
Official employerAn interview, a presentation and a group exercise, in person or virtual depending on the role. Interview: two assessors, 45 minutes including time for your own questions (the 2024 advert called it a line manager interview). Presentation: topic given in advance, 15 minutes in total, 10 to present and 5 for assessors' questions. Group exercise: a scenario-based activity with other applicants, scored by the assessors; length not stated. Summer Internship candidates do only the interview and presentation. L&G gives indicative timings of December and January for graduates, January and February for interns, and March and April for apprentices.
Practise: Assessment centre practice, Presentation exercise practice, Group exercise practice, Daily interview question
Final stage line-up
A 45-minute interview with two assessors, a 15-minute presentation on a topic given in advance (10 minutes presenting, 5 minutes of questions) and a scored, scenario-based group exercise. Summer Internship candidates do only the interview and presentation. In person or virtual depending on the role.
Retakes and validity
No retake rule is stated. L&G allows one active Future Talent application per recruitment cycle and may withdraw any additional applications.
What we could not verify
- Whether Cappfinity runs the live assessments and video interview (L&G's careers pages name no vendor; Cappfinity is named as talent partner on the Preparation Zone)
- Whether the current online assessment includes verbal reasoning (stated only in the 2024 advert)
- Time limits, question counts and video answer timings
- Group exercise length and the total length of the assessment centre
- Differences for apprenticeship and year in industry routes
- Whether a CV is requested (the process page and the FAQ disagree)
- Named L&G values: none were found on the pages read
- Retake rules
