BlackRock: application stages, tests and practice
BlackRock says you apply online with your CV, then receive a link to a pre-interview assessment in which you record answers to questions based on the programme. You have up to five days to submit it, or the application is withdrawn. Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling applicants also take a coding challenge. Interviews with people from the function follow, focused on the BlackRock Principles, and may include a group exercise, presentation or case study. BlackRock does not name an assessment vendor on the pages read.
Stages in order

Online application
Official employerEnter basic details and upload your CV. The Summer Internship and Spring Insight postings say you can apply to only one programme and up to two functions within it, using one application. The Summer Internship and Full-Time Analyst postings say applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. London deadlines on the postings read were 30 September 2026 for the Summer Internship and Full-Time Analyst programmes and 4 December 2026 for the Spring Insight Event.
Pre-interview assessment (recorded answers)
Official employerAfter you apply you get an email link to a pre-interview assessment. You record answers to questions based on the programme you applied to. You have up to five days to submit it; if you do not, the application is automatically withdrawn, and BlackRock says applications are not considered without it. The number of questions, preparation time, answer length and platform are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Video interview practice
Coding challenge within the pre-interview assessment (Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling only)
Official employerFor these two functions the pre-interview assessment includes a coding challenge. Languages, length and platform are not published on the pages read.

Interviews
Official employerInterviews with representatives of the function or functions you applied to. BlackRock says the conversations focus on the BlackRock Principles, your experience or your capabilities, and may include a group exercise, presentation or case study. Software engineering interviews may include problem-solving exercises or technical questions. The number and length of interviews, and whether they are virtual or in person, are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Daily interview question, Group exercise practice, Presentation exercise practice, Case study exercise practice

Final stage line-up
BlackRock describes interviews with representatives of the function, focused on the BlackRock Principles, your experience or your capabilities, which may include a group exercise, presentation or case study. It does not say how many interviews there are, how long they last, or whether they run as a single assessment day.
Retakes and validity
No retake rule for the pre-interview assessment is stated. The Summer Internship and Spring Insight postings say that if you withdraw your application you cannot submit another application for that programme that year. All three postings read say a missed five-day deadline withdraws the application automatically.
What we could not verify
- Which video platform runs the pre-interview assessment: HireVue is named only by prep sites and candidate posts, not by BlackRock
- Number of recorded questions, preparation time and answer length (candidate reports of two or three questions with about 30 seconds to prepare and 90 seconds to answer were not confirmed by BlackRock)
- Any online numerical, verbal or reasoning test: a prep site names SHL tests, but no such test appears on the BlackRock pages read
- Whether the Spring Insight Event has interviews after the pre-interview assessment
- Number, length and format of interviews, and whether a group exercise, presentation or case study is used for a given programme
- The Apprenticeship Programme process (a search snippet of an older posting mentioned three recorded answers, a virtual interview and an assessment centre with a group exercise; the current posting was not read)
- Retake rules for the pre-interview assessment

What are the stages of the BlackRock application process?
As we could verify, the stages are: Online application, then Pre-interview assessment (recorded answers), then Coding challenge within the pre-interview assessment (Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling only), then Interviews. The page says which of these are stated by BlackRock itself and which are only reported by candidates. Check your own invitation, because processes change every cycle.
What is the final stage of the BlackRock process?
BlackRock describes interviews with representatives of the function, focused on the BlackRock Principles, your experience or your capabilities, which may include a group exercise, presentation or case study. It does not say how many interviews there are, how long they last, or whether they run as a single assessment day.
Can I practise for BlackRock here?
Yes. Each stage links to the matching free practice, with real timings, an untimed mode and a learn mode. The practice is independent, uses original questions and is not affiliated with BlackRock or any test publisher.
