NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (Finance): application stages, tests and practice
The NHS GMTS says its process is a registration and application form, then a Stage 1 Future Potential Assessment online (about 45 minutes, not time limited), a Stage 2 NHS GMTS Alignment Assessment with timed video responses (about 60 minutes), and a Stage 3 half-day Virtual Assessment Centre. Every candidate gets a feedback report after each of these stages. Successful candidates get an offer and are then matched to a placement; the scheme says allocation is not part of the assessment. The scheme says its process assesses strengths and potential, not your degree subject or university, and its About page points applicants to the values in the NHS Constitution.

Stage 1: Future Potential Assessment (online)
Official employerAn online assessment that takes about 45 minutes but is not time limited. The scheme says it helps you learn more about the work you would do on the Scheme, and you can practise each question type before you start. Applying early gives you more time to complete it. Every candidate receives a feedback report. Practice tests and hints and tips videos appear in your account once you apply. The question types are not named on the pages read, and no vendor is named.

Stage 2: NHS GMTS Alignment Assessment
Official employerAvailable as soon as you pass Stage 1. Takes about 60 minutes and includes video responses; only the video questions are timed, and you get preparation time before recording each answer. You can practise each question type first. The scheme says every video response is reviewed by its team, with no artificial intelligence used, and every candidate receives a feedback report. The number of questions and time limits are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Video interview practice

Stage 3: Virtual Assessment Centre (VAC)
Official employerA half-day virtual assessment centre with 'several engaging exercises', where you meet the NHS team and other candidates. VACs run from January to February 2027. Before the VAC the scheme offers coaching calls, hints and tips and platform familiarisation videos, and the platform has its own microphone and camera check. There are three outcomes: successful (an immediate offer), reserve list, or unsuccessful. Everyone receives a feedback report. The exercises are not named on the pages read.

Final stage line-up
Virtual and half a day, with 'several engaging exercises' and a chance to meet the NHS team and other candidates. The individual exercises and their timings are not published on the pages read. The VAC is the final assessment stage; offers are followed by allocation to a placement using your assessment scores and preferences.
Retakes and validity
You can apply again in a later year: the scheme's eligibility FAQ says each year some trainees start the Scheme after applying more than once, and suggests reflecting on your assessment feedback first. No rule on how many specialisms you can apply to in one year, and no test re-sit rule, is stated on the pages read.
