JLR (Jaguar Land Rover): application stages, tests and practice
JLR says its early careers process has three online stages: an application form with no CV or cover letter, a set of online tests, and a virtual assessment centre with a presentation exercise and a motivational and future-focused scenario interview. JLR's practice link goes to a Saville Assessment preparation page, which names a situational judgement test, the Match 6.5 personality questionnaire and an aptitude test. Candidates are assessed against JLR's Creators' Code: customer love, unity, integrity, growth and impact. You can make one application per recruitment cycle.
Stages in order
What do the confidence badges mean?
- Vendor-published Stated in the test publisher's own document or practice site.
- Academic From peer-reviewed research.
- Official employer Stated on the employer's own page.
- Near-official Near-official: an employer-run practice portal, or a vendor or employer-quoted press release naming the employer.
- Candidate-reported Reported by candidates. Treat as likely but unconfirmed.
- Third-party From prep sites, press or forums. Not confirmed by the employer or publisher.
Online application
Official employerAn online form about you, your motivations and your experience. No CV or cover letter is needed. JLR's employability hub says the form has a free text question on your motivation and that you can only apply to one programme, so check the entry criteria first. Reasonable adjustments are requested in a free text box at this stage.
Online tests
Official employerA series of short online tests completed on your own; JLR says passing is based on your scores. Saville's JLR preparation page names three assessments and asks you to set aside one hour for all three: a situational judgement test (video workplace scenarios, each followed by four possible actions you rate from 'Extremely Ineffective' to 'Extremely Effective', no time limit), the Match 6.5 personality questionnaire (blocks of six statements; Saville describes a nine-point agreement scale, while JLR's hub says 1 to 10 and about 6.5 minutes, untimed), and an aptitude test that is timed and cannot be paused. Saville's page says Level 6 and Level 7 apprentice applicants should use the Swift Comprehension Aptitude practice test. JLR's hub says aptitude tests may cover verbal, numerical, diagrammatic or error checking, depending on the programme, and gives the situational judgement test as about 15 to 20 minutes. Which aptitude sections the Level 7 Finance test contains, and its time limit, are not published on the pages read.
Publisher: Saville Assessment (named by the employer or an employer-run portal)
Practise: Saville-style practice, Situational judgement test practice, Personality questionnaire practice, Verbal reasoning test practice, Numerical reasoning test practice
Virtual assessment centre
Official employerFully virtual. JLR's employability hub describes two tasks: a 30-minute presentation exercise on a topic sent to you in advance (around 4 slides, about 10 minutes presenting, then questions on your content) and a 45-minute motivational and future-focused scenario interview (why this role and why JLR, then scenarios you might meet in the role and how you would respond). Assessors look at your motivation and your alignment to the Creators' Code. JLR sends a preparation guide before this stage and suggests its STARRY method for examples. The apprentices FAQ says this stage 'might include' these two tasks.
Practise: Assessment centre practice, Presentation exercise practice, Daily interview question
Final stage line-up
Virtual. A 30-minute presentation exercise (topic given in advance, around 4 slides, about 10 minutes presenting then questions) and a 45-minute motivational and future-focused scenario interview, both assessed against the Creators' Code. JLR says it shares the outcome within 2 weeks and makes successful candidates a verbal offer, confirmed by email.
Retakes and validity
One application per recruitment cycle (JLR's hub gives the cycle as September to March), and only to one programme; JLR may contact you if another programme suits you better. JLR's hub encourages unsuccessful candidates to ask for feedback and try again. No test re-sit rule or waiting period is stated on the pages read.
What we could not verify
- The aptitude sections and time limit for the Level 7 Finance online test are not published on the pages read
- JLR's hub and Saville's page describe the Match 6.5 rating scale differently (1 to 10 versus a nine-point scale)
- Application dates for the 2027 Level 7 Finance intake are TBC on JLR's page
- A 2025 JLR story mentions a Commercial graduate programme, but no finance or commercial graduate programme is listed for 2027 on the pages read
