Nationwide Building Society: application stages, tests and practice
Nationwide's adverts say you answer a few quick questions, complete online assessments and a short video interview, then may be selected for an assessment centre (running from December 2026 or January 2027 depending on the programme). Nationwide names Sova as its online assessment platform for early careers screening and says it does not use AI to make final recruitment decisions.
Stages in order

- Vendor-published Stated in the test publisher's own document or practice site.
- Academic From peer-reviewed research.

- Near-official Near-official: an employer-run practice portal, or a vendor or employer-quoted press release naming the employer.

Online application
Official employerClick 'Apply Now' and answer a few quick questions. Nationwide's help page says you may also be asked to upload a CV. You can apply for more than one Skills Development Programme. Adverts can close early if many applications arrive; the adverts read close on 6 November 2026.
Online assessments
Official employerNationwide sends online assessments after you apply. It says early careers roles use the Sova online assessment platform for initial screening, scored automatically against predefined criteria and benchmarks that are the same for all candidates, and that the recruitment team reviews every application. If you apply for more than one programme you complete the online assessment once. The test types, number of questions and time limits are not published on the pages read.
Publisher: Sova (named by the employer or an employer-run portal)
Short video interview
Official employerThe adverts say there will also be a short video interview to find out more about you. Nationwide does not say whether it is recorded or live, how many questions it has, or which platform runs it.
Practise: Video interview practice
Assessment centre (Assessment Event)
Official employerIf successful you could be selected for an assessment centre. The Finance Development Programme (Financial Management) and Finance Industrial Placement (Treasury) adverts say centres run from December 2026; the Data & Analytics Development Programme advert says from January 2027. If you meet the requirements for more than one programme, Nationwide asks which one you want to continue with before inviting you to an Assessment Event. The exercises at the centre are not described on the programme pages read.
Practise: Assessment centre practice
Final stage line-up
Not published for these programmes on the pages read. The adverts say only that successful candidates could be selected for an assessment centre.
Retakes and validity
If your application for an autumn 2026 start was unsuccessful, you can apply again for autumn 2027 (Industrial Placements: September 2027, if you are still between second and final year). The internship FAQ says you can apply again. No rule on retaking the online assessments is stated on the pages read.
What we could not verify
- Which tests the Sova online assessment contains (for example numerical reasoning or a situational judgement test), and their length. Prep sites list several; Nationwide does not on the pages read.
- Whether the short video interview is recorded or live, its platform, and its number of questions and timings.
- The assessment centre line-up for each programme. Nationwide's general help page (all roles) says it uses a competency interview and may add presentations, group tasks, online tests or technical questions, and aims to use diverse interview panels, but the Early Careers pages do not say which of these are used at the centre.
- The summer internship selection stages (applications not yet open on the pages read).
- Older processes described in 2018 press material (a cut-e based process and a digital assessment centre). Not read for this entry and probably out of date.
- A retake rule for the online assessments.
