Macquarie Group: application stages, tests and practice
Macquarie lists four stages for graduate and intern roles: an application with a CV, an online psychometric assessment of one to two hours in two parts (cognitive ability and behavioural preferences), a video interview of pre-recorded questions under timed conditions, then further interviews with the business. Macquarie does not name a test or video vendor on the pages read.
Stages in order
What do the confidence badges mean?
- Vendor-published Stated in the test publisher's own document or practice site.
- Academic From peer-reviewed research.
- Official employer Stated on the employer's own page.
- Near-official Near-official: an employer-run practice portal, or a vendor or employer-quoted press release naming the employer.
- Candidate-reported Reported by candidates. Treat as likely but unconfirmed.
- Third-party From prep sites, press or forums. Not confirmed by the employer or publisher.
Online application
Official employerComplete the application form and upload your CV. Macquarie suggests a one-page CV, says no cover letter is needed, and recruits on a rolling basis. Graduate and intern candidates may submit one application, with a first and second preference, and can apply for the Summer Internship or the Graduate Programme but not both. Anything on your application may be asked about at interview.
Online psychometric assessment
Official employerTwo parts: one measuring cognitive ability and one measuring behavioural preferences. Macquarie says it typically takes one to two hours, there is no pass or fail, and results are combined with other information from the process. Early careers candidates have 48 hours to complete it. AI is not allowed. Your recruiter sends a link to practice assessments. Macquarie's Australian recruitment page adds that the practice assessment from your recruiter is the only authentic practice for Macquarie; its UK pages do not say this. If you take it at home you may be asked to sit a verification assessment in an office. Candidates outside the United States get a feedback report on the careers portal about two days after finishing. The test sections, item counts and time limits are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Personality questionnaire practice
Video interview
Official employerIf Macquarie sees a strong match, you answer a number of pre-recorded questions under timed conditions, tailored to the business group you applied to. Recruiters review the responses. Do not use AI to answer. The deadline is set out in the invitation and is not extended unless there is a mitigating circumstance. For the Insight Programme this is the final stage before offers. The number of questions and the preparation and answer times are not published on the pages read.
Practise: Video interview practice
Further interviews
Official employerInterviews with members of the business, virtual or in person, depending on the team. You are generally asked to consider a case study, a problem-solving activity or an article and present your views to the team, and to answer some competency-based questions. Some business areas add a final senior leader interview. The Insight Programme has no further interview. Offers must be accepted within seven days.
Practise: Case study exercise practice, Presentation exercise practice, Daily interview question
Final stage line-up
Further interviews with the business team: generally a case study, a problem-solving activity or an article to present your views on, plus competency-based questions. Some business areas add a final senior leader interview. The number and length of interviews are not published.
Retakes and validity
Macquarie holds psychometric results for two years, so if you sat the assessment in the last two years you will not be asked to take it again, although you may be asked to complete a verification assessment. Graduate and intern candidates may make one application. No other retake rule is stated.
What we could not verify
- Who provides the psychometric assessment and the video interview platform. A prep site says Korn Ferry (Talent Q), but no Macquarie or vendor page read confirms this.
- Which reasoning areas the cognitive part covers (for example numerical, verbal or abstract), and its item counts and time limits.
- The number of video interview questions and the preparation and answer times.
- The number and length of further interviews, and whether any group exercise is used.
